Mary runs openDemocracy, a global, non-profit media outlet that seeks to challenge power and inspire change through tenacious reporting, thoughtful analysis and democratic debate.

openDemocracy is currently running a major investigation into commercial interference in editorial decisions across 47 European countries, in partnerships with Index on Censorship, RSF, the EFJ and King’s College London.

Mary also sits on the code committee of Impress, the UK’s newest independent press regulator, and is a trustee of the human rights charity Reprieve. She has previously she has worked at Avaaz, the global campaigning organisation, and as a Senior Editor at Prospect Magazine.
