Andrew Caruana Galizia is the second of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s three sons, the Maltese journalist assassinated in a car bomb attack on 16 October 2017 close to her home in Bidnija, Malta. After traineeships at the European Parliament in Brussels and at the EU Delegation to Israel, he joined the Maltese diplomatic service through public examination in 2012 and served in the multilateral affairs directorate in Valletta and as deputy head of mission in Berlin and New Delhi. He holds a masters degree from the College of Europe in Bruges and speaks English, French and Maltese and some German and Italian. He took a leave of absence from the diplomatic service after his mother was killed. On the advice of security experts he left Malta a month later with his brothers and wife.
